Boats move. A vessel gets shifted to a longer slip, hauled out for a fortnight, or relocated for dredging — and each of those events is recorded in Sharper as a space assignment. The Marina Space Assignments report is the history of those movements: which vessel went where, when, and what slip it came from.
This article assumes you already know the basics of the Sharper reporting module — the Name, Token, Subtotal, column picker, and filter fields. Why This Report Matters
A slip's current occupant is easy to see on the map. What is much harder to reconstruct after the fact is where a boat was three months ago, how many times a customer has been moved, or which slips are being used as short-term holding while their regular tenant is away. This report answers those, which makes it useful for:
Settling a customer query about being moved, with dates and slips on record
Reviewing how often a particular slip or dock is churning
Seeing which vessels are currently away from the marina but still holding their slip
Reconstructing occupancy history for an insurance or damage claim
The Three Assignment Types
Every row carries a Type, and it is one of three. Reading the report without this column is very difficult, so always include it.
Type | What Happened |
Permanent Move | The vessel was moved to a different slip for the rest of its stay. The old slip is released. |
Temporary Move | The vessel was moved to another slip for a defined period and is expected back — typical during maintenance or dredging. |
Temporary Departed | The vessel has left the marina entirely for a period — cruising, hauled out, away for the winter — but still holds its reservation and its slip. |
On a Temporary Departed row, Space Name is deliberately empty — the vessel is not in a slip at all, so there is no destination space to name. A blank Space Name is not a data error, and filtering on Space Name will silently drop every temporary departure from your results. Use Previous Space Name to see the slip the vessel left from.
This Is History, Not Current Occupancy
Each row is a movement event with its own Start Date and End Date, so a vessel that has been moved three times produces three rows. A slip with no movement history produces none at all, and vacant slips do not appear — a slip that has never had a vessel moved into or out of it is simply absent from the report.
If what you actually want is where every vessel is right now, along with what each slip is earning, use the Marina Rent Roll report instead — that one reports the marina as it stands today and includes empty slips.
Building a Space Assignments Report
Go to Reports → Marina → Space Assignments in the left sidebar.
If a shipped report is close to what you need, use the ⋯ menu → Copy first — shipped reports can only be edited by the Sharper team.
Otherwise click + New and give it a Name, such as "Vessel Move History."
Add the columns below, including Type.
Turn on All Outlets if vessels move between your marinas.
Click Save, then Get Report to run it.

Curr Price, Potential Price | The rate on the reservation — useful when a move to a larger slip should have changed what the customer pays |
Note: The Vessels column group also offers an Import Expiration Date field alongside the insurance columns. It holds a value carried over from data migrated in from a previous system and does not update as policies renew — always use Insurance Expiration Date instead.
Useful Filters
On the Report Run page (after clicking Get Report), add filter rows for the view you want:
Vessels currently away from the marina: Field Type, set to Temporary Departed, and End Date set to is empty.
Permanent moves in a period: Field Type set to Permanent Move, and Start Date operator Between, covering the period.
Everything that happened to one slip: Field Previous Space Name set to the slip, in an Or group with Space Name set to the same slip — this catches moves both in and out.
One customer's move history: Field Customer Name, set to the customer.
One dock's churn: Field Space Group Name, set to the group.
Moves still in effect: Field End Date, set to is empty.
The Temporary Departed filter is worth keeping as its own saved report — it is the fastest way to see which slips are physically empty today even though they are paid for and cannot be re-let.
