Marina - Module Overview

Overview of the Marina module — booking periods, navigation sections, key concepts (Booking Types, Products, Spaces, Vessels), and typical setup order.

Updated today

The Marina module is Sharper's hub for managing slip and space reservations for boat owners. Whether your marina offers short-term transient dockage, seasonal contracts, or year-round annual slips, the Marina module handles all three — along with utility billing, vessel tracking, and online booking.

Navigating the Marina Module

From the left navigation pane, click Marina to enter the module. The top ribbon contains the following sections:

Key Concepts

Booking Periods

Marina reservations fall into one of three categories based on duration:

Booking Period

Who It's For

Pricing Model

Transient (Hourly / Daily / Nightly)

Visiting boaters docking for a short stay

Per hour, per day, or per night — with optional dimension-based rate tiers

Seasonal

Boaters who dock for a defined season (summer, winter, etc.)

A flat seasonal rate tied to a Season record configured in System Settings → Seasons

Long-Term

Permanent slip holders on a month-to-month or annual contract

Monthly or annual invoicing with recurring billing

Booking Types

A Booking Type is the foundation of your Marina setup. It acts as a category that links products, spaces, and rate plans together. It controls which booking periods are available, what vessel dimensions the online portal requires from guests, and whether products appear online at all.

Every product, space, and rate plan must be assigned to a Booking Type. Changes to a Booking Type affect everything connected to it.

Products

A Product is a specific bookable slip offering — for example, "Inside Wet Slip - Seasonal" or "Transient Slip - Nightly." Products control the income account and tax code, which spaces are available, pricing, booking rules, and invoice settings (frequency, first invoice handling, pro rating, deferred income).

Spaces

A Space is an individual physical slip. Each space has dimension constraints (max vessel LOA, beam, draft, height, weight) that the system uses to match a vessel to a compatible slip during availability search. Spaces belong to a Space Group and are assigned to one or more products.

Vessels

Every boat that docks at your marina is tracked as a Vessel record linked to a customer account. Vessel records store dimensions (LOA, beam, draft, height, weight), insurance details, and importation status. When a reservation is created, the vessel's dimensions are used to match it to compatible spaces.

Typical Setup Order

If you are setting up the Marina module for the first time, follow this order:

  1. Create Space Groups (Marina → Settings → Space Groups)

  2. Create Spaces and Slips (Marina → Settings → Spaces)

  3. Set up Booking Types (Marina → Settings → Booking Types)

  4. Create Rate Plans (Marina → Settings → Rate Plans)

  5. Create Products (Marina → Products)

  6. Assign Spaces to Products (done within each product's Units tab)

  7. Set up Policies (Marina → Settings → Policies) if taking deposits or offering online booking

  8. Set up Power Meter Types and Power Meters if billing for electricity
