Compatible Hardware for Sharper

Hardware known to work with Sharper's Point of Sale, organized by device type.

This article lists the hardware known to work with Sharper's Point of Sale and reporting hardware needs, organized by device type. Most hardware is standard consumer equipment you can source yourself — credit card readers are the one exception.

Credit card readers must be ordered directly from SharperMMS. Card readers require firmware specific to Sharper before they can process payments, Readers cannot be purchased through a standard consumer retailer.

Sharper's standard card reader is the ID Tech VP8300. The device is plug and play once it has been configured for your account. To order one, submit a support request specifying your company name or outlet and how many readers you need.

All card readers, including the VP8300, must be ordered directly from SharperMMS rather than a general retailer, since each unit requires firmware specific to Sharper before it can process payments.

Scanner

Used at the register to scan barcodes on items or labels. Unlike the card reader, scanners are not sold by SharperMMS — bring your own.

Any USB or Bluetooth barcode scanner that emulates a keyboard (sometimes called "keyboard wedge" or "HID" mode) will work with Sharper — there is no required brand or model.

Connection: USB or Bluetooth, in keyboard-wedge / HID mode.

Scan timing can be adjusted in POS Settings — see Validation Delay and Barcode Scanner Average Time in How to Set Up a Point of Sale.

Once your printer is connected to your network, see Company Settings - Printers to add it in Sharper, and How-to Connect Receipt Printer to New Station for connecting a printer to a specific register station.

Cash Drawer

Any cash drawer that connects via a phone jack (RJ11/RJ12) cable to your receipt printer will work with Sharper.

Note: Do not purchase a cash drawer that is bundled with or built for another POS system (for example, Clover or Square). Those drawers are typically locked to their originating system's cabling or software and will not integrate with Sharper.
