The PAX A920 Pro can be used in two different ways within SharperMMS:
Register Mode (Card Reader Only) – The POS register runs on a computer, tablet, or browser, and the PAX device is used only to collect payments.
Mobile POS Mode (Register on Device) – The POS register runs directly on the PAX device, allowing staff to create sales, add items, and process payments from the handheld unit itself.
The setup process and daily workflow differ depending on which mode you choose.
NOTE: This article is for marinas that already use a PAX A920 Pro device. New POS setups use a standard Payroc card reader connected to the SharperMMS POS Register — a PAX device is not required.
For marinas with an existing PAX A920 Pro, the device can be used in two ways:
As a payment terminal connected to a traditional SharperMMS POS Register
As a fully mobile POS register running Sharper Mobile POS directly on the device.
Option 1: Register Mode (PAX as a Card Reader)
Best For
Front desk or ship store registers
Fixed checkout stations
Users who want the full POS interface on a larger screen
How It Works
The SharperMMS POS Register runs on your computer or tablet, while the PAX device handles card payments.
⚠️ Important: Before processing payments, ensure the Payroc app is open and connected on the PAX device. Payments may fail if the Payroc app is closed or disconnected.

Receipt options are displayed in SharperMMS.

Step 1: Enable Device Payments
On your computer or tablet in SharperMMS:

Initial Setup
Before using the device as a mobile register:
Step 1: Configure the Device for Payment Processing (Required First)
Before the A920 Pro can process payments, it must be set up just like a standard PAX payment device — complete Step 1 and Step 2 under Option 1: Register Mode above. This ensures the device is connected to Payroc, its payment credentials are configured, and it's recognized by SharperMMS for processing payments. This step is required for all PAX devices, including the A920 Pro.
Step 2: Enable On-Device POS (A920 Pro Only)
Once you have set up the device within Sharper, you can proceed with linking a register to use on-device POS.
On the PAX A920 Pro device:
Open the Device Settings page on the A920 Pro
Enter your Sharper subdomain. Example:
yourmarina.sharpermms.com(this is the same URL you use to log into Sharper on a browser)Click Save
Step 3: Select Your Register
Choose the appropriate Register(s) from the list. Only registers already set up in Sharper (web) will appear. A device can be assigned access to multiple registers — users select the register they wish to use when signing in.
Log in just like you would on a normal POS register: enter your user PIN and clock in, if applicable.
Step 4: Connect the Payroc App (Required)
Before processing any payments:
Open the Payroc app on the device
Ensure it is connected to Payroc Cloud
⚠️ Important Note:
If the Payroc app is not open or connected, payments may fail
Always confirm connection at the start of the shift
↩️ How to Exit the Payroc App:
Tap the Payroc icon 3 times to reveal the navigation buttons
This is an intentional safeguard put in place by Payroc to prevent accidental exits during payment processing
💳 You are now ready to process payments for the day!
How To: Process Payments on the Device
Create an order in Sharper on the device.
When ready to charge, Sharper will automatically switch to the Payroc payment screen.
If tipping is enabled, customer will be prompted to select a tip amount. Customer completes payment (tap, insert, or swipe).
Once approved, the device returns to Sharper to complete the transaction and present receipt options.
Having trouble processing payments? Always verify that: the Payroc app is open, the device is connected to Wi-Fi, and the Payroc app shows a connected status. Payments may fail if the Payroc app is closed or disconnected.
⚠️ Notes on Refunds
Refunds cannot be processed on the device. All refunds must be completed in the full POS (web) or CRM tools in SharperMMS.
You're Ready to Go
Once setup is complete, your PAX A920 Pro can be used as a fully mobile POS register for creating sales and processing payments anywhere on-site.
