How-To Change Product Pricing: Understanding Fixed vs. Product Pricing

Updated this week

Sharper supports two pricing models for reservation products: Fixed Price and Rate Plan pricing. Understanding the difference helps you choose the right model for each product and update prices correctly when rates change.

Fixed Price

A Fixed Price is a single dollar amount applied to a reservation regardless of how many nights, days, or periods are booked.

Best for:

  • Day-use passes

  • Single-day boat rentals

  • Flat-rate services or add-ons

How to set or update a Fixed Price:

  1. Navigate to Bookings/Marina/Campground → Products and open the product.

  2. In the Pricing section, select Fixed Price if it is not already selected.

  3. Enter the dollar amount.

  4. Save the product.

The new price applies immediately to any new reservations created after saving. Existing reservations and already-generated invoices are not affected.

Rate Plan Pricing

Rate Plan pricing calculates the reservation total based on the duration of the stay and a per-day or per-night rate. Rate Plans also support date-range rows, allowing different rates for different seasons or periods.

Best for:

  • Seasonal marina slips

  • Nightly or weekly campsite rentals

  • Products where the price varies by season or length of stay

How to set or update a Rate Plan:

  1. Navigate to the product and open Pricing → Rate Plans.

  2. To update an existing rate: find the rate plan row covering the relevant period, click Edit, and change the rate.

  3. To add a new season or rate tier: click Add Row, set the From Date and To Date for the period, and enter the new rate.

  4. Ensure there are no gaps between date rows — a gap in coverage will prevent pricing from calculating for dates that fall in the gap.

  5. Save the rate plan.

Important: Updating a rate plan does not retroactively change invoices that have already been generated. Only future invoices — created after the change — will reflect the new rate.

Setting an Effective Date for a Price Change

If you want a price change to take effect on a future date without disrupting current reservations:

  • For Rate Plan products: add a new rate plan row starting on the effective date with the new rate, while leaving the existing row intact through the last date of the old rate.

  • For Fixed Price products: Sharper does not have a built-in effective date field. If the timing of the change is important, coordinate the update to coincide with your billing cycle.

Common Questions

Do price changes affect existing reservations?
No. Changing a product's price affects only new reservations and newly generated invoices. Already-issued invoices retain the rate they were generated with.

Can I charge different rates for different spaces?
Rate Plans can be configured at the product level. If spaces have meaningfully different rates (e.g., premium slips vs. standard slips), set up separate products for each pricing tier.

What if a Rate Plan shows $0 for certain dates?
A $0 result usually means there is no rate plan row covering those dates. Add a row for the missing period and re-run pricing for affected reservations.
