Sharper allows you to customize state and federal tax rates as well as take advantage of additional tax for specific products. Tax Code, Rate, and Agency are configured in the Accounting module.
Setting up Tax Agency
From the navigation pane select the Accounting module
Select Settings → Tax Agency menu tile.
Click Add New button in upper right-hand.
Enter the Tax Agency Name, Address, and Phone.
Click Save.
Setting up Tax Rate
From the navigation pane select the Accounting module
Select Settings → Tax Rate menu tile.
Click Add New button in upper right-hand.
Enter the Tax Rate Name, Description, Type, Amount, and Tax Agency.
Click Save.
Setting up Tax Code
From the navigation pane select the Accounting module.
Select Settings → Tax Code menu tile.
Click the Add New button in the upper right-hand corner.
Enter the Tax Code Name.
Set the Taxable setting on or off. See below — this setting does more than label the code.
Click Save.
The Taxable setting marks whether items using this tax code are taxable. If your company syncs to QuickBooks Online, it does something more: when Taxable is on, Sharper tells QuickBooks Online that those invoice lines are taxable, and QuickBooks Online then calculates its own sales tax on them using the customer's address and tax jurisdiction. If QuickBooks Online arrives at a slightly different figure than Sharper did, that difference can show up on the invoice as a small unexplained open balance. When Taxable is off, QuickBooks Online does not calculate tax on those lines and Sharper's own tax amounts are the only tax on the invoice.
Note: This applies to QuickBooks Online only. QuickBooks Desktop and Sage Intacct do not recalculate tax on invoices Sharper sends. If you are seeing invoices that were paid in full show a small amount still owed, see Why Your Invoice Total in QuickBooks Online Doesn't Match Sharper.
