When a vessel is assigned to a slip through a reservation, Sharper creates a Space Assignment record that tracks which vessel occupies which slip and when. This allows your marina to maintain a complete history of vessel movements and ensures availability is always accurate.
Understanding Space Assignment Types
Assignment Type | What It Means |
Permanent Move | The vessel is moving to a new slip and will not return to the original. The new slip becomes the vessel's permanent home. |
Temporary Move | The vessel moves to a different slip for a defined period (e.g., while its home slip is under maintenance) and will return to the original slip afterward. |
Temporary Departed | The vessel has left the marina entirely for a period (e.g., on a trip) but will return to its assigned slip. The slip remains held for the vessel during its absence. |
Viewing a Vessel's Current Space
From the left navigation pane, click Marina.
Click Vessels on the top ribbon.
Locate and open the vessel.
The Current Space field shows the vessel's currently assigned slip. This field is populated automatically β you cannot edit it directly.
Moving a Vessel to a New Slip
Permanent Move
Appropriate when a slip holder is changing slips and will not return to their current one.
Open the customer's active reservation.
Click Edit to enter edit mode.
In the Space selector (Price Details area), select the new slip from the drop-down.
Save the reservation.
Note: If the new slip has different dimension constraints than the original, the system checks the vessel's dimensions for compatibility. Use the No Rules override in Advanced Search options if you need to bypass dimension checking.
Temporary Move
Appropriate when a vessel needs to occupy a different slip for a short time but will return to its original slip.
Open the customer's active reservation.
Click Edit.
In the Space selector, select the temporary slip.
Enter the temporary dates (From / To).
Save.
Note: The original slip remains "owned" by the vessel during a temporary move. It will not be made available for other reservations during this period.
Recording a Temporary Departure
Used when a vessel leaves the marina (e.g., on a trip) but the slip should remain reserved for its return.
Open the customer's active reservation.
Click the three-dot menu (β―) in the reservation summary.
Select Temporary Departed.
Enter the expected return date if known.
Save.
The slip remains assigned to the vessel and does not appear as available to other boaters. When the vessel returns:
Open the reservation.
Change the status back to Checked In.
Assignment History
Sharper maintains a full history of all space assignment events for each vessel and slip. This history is used to accurately calculate historical occupancy for reports.
To view assignment history: on the vessel record, review the reservation history in the associated reservation list. Run a Marina Reservation report filtered by vessel or space to see all historical assignments.
Availability Impact
A Permanent Move closes the old slip assignment and opens a new one β the old slip becomes available.
A Temporary Move holds both slips for the duration of the temporary period.
A Temporary Departed record keeps the slip unavailable for the duration of the departure, even though the vessel is not physically present.
When a temporary assignment ends, availability is automatically restored.
