POS - Module Overview

Updated this week

The Point of Sale (POS) module is used to ring up and process retail, food, and beverage sales. It supports everything from a simple ship store to a full-service restaurant or bar, and can be used at a fixed terminal or on a mobile device dockside.

What You Can Do in POS

  • Set up and manage registers (terminals), register types, and product grids

  • Create and manage products, categories, modifiers, and prep stations

  • Open the terminal, process sales, accept multiple payment types, and close out

  • Issue refunds, apply discounts, sell and redeem gift cards

  • Pay a customer's open invoices directly from the terminal

  • Track and adjust product inventory

  • Run Z-Out reports to reconcile cash and payments at end of shift

Module Navigation

The POS module is accessed from the left-hand navigation bar. The ribbon at the top provides access to all major sections:

Key Concepts

Register — A named terminal configuration. Each register has a product grid, payment methods, authorized users, and an assigned receipt printer. A register must be opened (started) before sales can be processed.

Register Batch — A session that starts when you open the register and ends when you close it (Z-Out). All orders, payments, and cash counts belong to a batch.

Register Type — A template that defines how a register behaves (retail vs. restaurant mode, tip settings, server close-out requirements, etc.). Each register is assigned one register type.

Product Grid — The button layout staff see on the terminal. Organized into groups (tabs) with products inside them.

Order / Ticket — A single sales transaction. Can contain multiple items, discounts, and payments.

Setup Path (New Register)

Before opening the terminal for the first time, complete setup in this order:

  1. Configure printers in System Settings → Printers

  2. Create prep stations in POS → Settings → Prep Stations (if using kitchen printing)

  3. Create modifier groups and modifiers in POS → Modifier Groups (if applicable)

  4. Create products in POS → Products

  5. Build a product grid in POS → Product Grids

  6. Create a register type in POS → Settings → Register Types

  7. Create the register in POS → Registers (assign grid, type, printer, users, payment methods)

  8. Configure POS-wide settings in POS → Settings → POS Settings

Daily Operations

  1. Open the register to start a batch — go to POS → Registers and click the three-dot menu on the register, then select Open

  2. Process sales through the terminal

  3. Close the register at end of shift (Z-Out) — use the register's close-out option to count cash and finalize the batch
