PAX A920 Pro Setup Options: Payment Terminal or Mobile POS

Learn the differences between using a PAX A920 Pro as a payment terminal connected to a POS register and using it as a fully mobile POS device running Sharper Mobile POS.

The PAX A920 Pro can be used in two different ways within SharperMMS:

  1. Register Mode (Card Reader Only) – The POS register runs on a computer, tablet, or browser, and the PAX device is used only to collect payments.

  2. Mobile POS Mode (Register on Device) – The POS register runs directly on the PAX device, allowing staff to create sales, add items, and process payments from the handheld unit itself.

The setup process and daily workflow differ depending on which mode you choose.

NOTE: A PAX A920 Pro device is not required to use SharperMMS POS Registers. Standard POS registers can process payments using supported payment terminals and payment processors without running the register on a PAX device.

The PAX A920 Pro offers additional flexibility because it can be used in two ways:

  • As a payment terminal connected to a traditional SharperMMS POS Register

  • As a fully mobile POS register running Sharper Mobile POS directly on the device.

Option 1: Register Mode (PAX as a Card Reader)

Best For

  • Front desk or ship store registers

  • Fixed checkout stations

  • Users who want the full POS interface on a larger screen

How It Works

The SharperMMS POS Register runs on your computer or tablet, while the PAX device handles card payments.

  2. Add products or services to the sale.

  3. Select Pay in SharperMMS

  5. The payment amount is automatically sent to the PAX device.

  6. Customer taps, inserts, or swipes their card.
If tipping is enabled, the customer will be prompted to select a tip amount on the device prior to paying.

  7. Payment is approved and returned to the main register screen.

  8. Receipt options are displayed in SharperMMS.
