How to Set Up a PAX A920 Pro (On-Device POS Use)

Run the SharperMMS POS directly on the PAX A920 Pro device.

Updated this week

These steps will allow you to run the SharperMMS POS directly on the PAX A920 Pro device, enabling dockside or tableside transactions without needing a computer or tablet.

⚠️ Note: This setup is for on-device register use (unlike standard PAX devices used with a separate register). Your device must be linked to your register within SharperMMS first on web before a register can be used on the device

Step 1: Configure the Device for Payments (Required First)

Before the A920 Pro device can process payments, it must be set up just like a standard PAX payment device.

This ensures:

  • The device is connected to Payroc

  • Payment credentials (API Key, Terminal, Device ID) are properly configured

  • The device is recognized by SharperMMS for processing payments

⚠️ The above step is required for all PAX devices, including the A920 Pro.

Step 2: Enable On-Device POS (A920 Pro Only)

Once you have set up the device within Sharper, you can proceed with linking a register to use on-device POS.

On the PAX A920 Pro device:

  1. Open the Device Settings page on the A920 Pro

  2. Enter your Sharper subdomain

    Example: yourmarina.sharpermms.com
(This is the same URL you use to log into Sharper on a browser)

  3. Click Save

Step 3: Select Your Register

  1. Choose the appropriate Register(s) from the list

    • Only registers already set up in Sharper (web) will appear

    • One device per register, but a single device can access multiple registers

  2. Log in just like you would on a normal POS register:

    • Enter your user PIN

    • Clock in, if applicable

Step 3: Connect the Payroc App (Required)

Before processing any payments:

  1. Open the Payroc app on the device

  2. Ensure it is connected to Payroc Cloud

⚠️ Important Note:

  • If the Payroc app is not open or connected, payments may fail

  • Always confirm connection at the start of the shift

↩️ How to Exit the Payroc App:

  • Tap the Payroc icon 3 times to reveal the navigation buttons

  • This is an intentional safeguard put in place by Payroc to prevent accidental exits during payment processing

💳 You are now ready to process payments for the day!

How To: Process Payments on the Device

  1. Create an order in Sharper on the device

  2. When ready to charge:

    • Sharper will automatically switch to the Payroc payment screen

  3. Customer completes payment (tap, insert, or swipe)

  4. You will be redirected back to Sharper to finalize the order

Notes on Refunds

  • Refunds cannot be processed on the device. All refunds must be completed in the full POS (web) or CRM tools in SharperMMS

You’re Ready to Go

Once set up, your PAX A920 Pro can be used as a fully mobile POS for taking payments anywhere on-site.
