This article covers three specialized POS terminal features: authorization holds, server close-out, and printing product barcodes.
Authorization Holds
An authorization hold reserves funds on a credit card without capturing payment immediately. This is used when the final charge amount is not known at the time of card swipe — most commonly at a fuel dock.
The customer presents their card before service begins.
Select Authorize Payment on the terminal.
Swipe or insert the card. The system places a hold for the estimated amount.
Return the card to the customer.
After service is complete, add any remaining items to the ticket.
Select Capture to finalize and charge the held amount.
If the service is cancelled, select Release Authorization to void the hold without charging the card.
Authorization holds expire based on your payment processor's policy. Contact your payment processor for their hold expiration timeframe.
Register Type: Hold for Signature
When Hold for Signature is enabled on the register type, the terminal automatically holds the ticket after card swipe and waits for staff to return with the signed slip before finalizing.
Navigate to Point of Sale > Settings > Register Types.
Select the register type.
Enable Hold for Signature.
Save.
Register Type: Capture on Finalize
Capture on Finalize controls when the card is charged:
Enabled — card is charged when the order is finalized, not at swipe time. Use this for authorization hold and fuel dock workflows.
Disabled — card is charged immediately at swipe.
To configure: Point of Sale > Settings > Register Types > Capture on Finalize.
Server Close-Out
In restaurant-mode registers, servers can close out their shift without closing the entire register. This allows multiple servers on different shifts to share the same register.
While logged into the terminal, select Server Close Out.
The system confirms all your open orders are finalized or voided.
Confirm the close-out.
Another server can now log in with their PIN. The register batch stays open until a manager closes it at end of day.
If Require Server Close Out is enabled on the register type, the register cannot be closed by a manager until all servers have closed out first.
Enabling Require Server Close Out
Navigate to Point of Sale > Settings > Register Types.
Select the register type.
Enable Require Server Close Out.
Save.
Printing Product Barcodes
You can print barcodes for any POS product directly from the Product list. This is useful for labeling retail merchandise.
Navigate to Point of Sale > Products.
Find the product.
Select the three-dot menu (•••) to the right of the product row.
Select Print Barcode.
In the print modal, select the printer and number of labels.
Select Print.
Barcodes are generated from the product's SKU. If a product has multiple Alternative SKUs configured, you can choose which SKU to print — useful when a product is sold under different barcodes (e.g., manufacturer barcode vs. internal barcode). To manage SKUs, open the product from Point of Sale > Products and edit the SKU or Alternative SKUs fields.
